    Hello, All!

    Domain Expiration Report

    https://nodelist.fidonet.cc/analytics/domain-expiration

Maybe I could even send automatic netmail notifications to Syops if their domains are about to expire!

Or would that be considered spam? Not sure.

    Best regards,
    dp.

    Hello Dmitry,

As far as I remember, several important Fidonet domains were
lost because someone didn't pay the bills on time :)

    Such as?

Fidonet.org is up for automatic renewal...

fidonet.net was lost, if I remember correctly.

It was indeed, that part of your memory is correct.

What you missed is that having the domain expire was an intentional act of the keeper to rock the boat. So a netmail warning would not have had the intended effect.

    Still missing...

And would a reminder netmail have helped in these cases?

FidoNet has no spam, so important notifications are probably easier to notice

But were those 'important' domains used by nodes? So your automated netmails would have worked for those expiring domains?

    Bye, Wilfred.

It was recommended to me, to stop using it. I somehow liked that, because is working without nodelist, but true is that we probably do not want to be dependent so much on other party.

At the end I have: 1) still valid binkp.net but 2) in nodelist I present real machine..

That point of "to send warning" - in general, sounds like spam. I would expect, I should agree first to get netmailed (enable that service) than by default to start getting it. Also - for example - in .cz expired domain is 30 days still covered (everything is still working) which could be business model here.

In detail I think - for consideration: who is reponsible for "not valid" entry in segment? Shall we start include that step/check in makenl process?

I would be happy to offload several of those nodelist entries, once I find qualified sysops to take a few of these NC hats.

I think maybe his point was - does each little individual state in N.E.
need it's own network, most with only 1 node in it? Does CT really need
to be two different nets? ;-)

Why does Fidonet still need to be "geo" based?

The pool of available, and capable, Hubs/NC/RCs has deminished over the years, but those that are available and capable are probably sufficient to serve the whole network.

Yes, unfortunately. I (nodelist.fidonet.cc software :) do domain WHOIS lookups only when a node is checked for connectivity, so they should appear after the next scheduled test. The .eu domain fix was applied about 3 days ago.
Just checked: theforze.eu is already there, magicbbs.eu will be there tomorrow (I hope so).

Thank you again for the in-depth analysis of the test results! I am too lazy/busy for that :)
